WAXHAW, NC – Hannah never would have thought that needing air in her tire would lead her ten years down the road to being a wife, mother and volunteer EMT with Waxhaw Fire Department, but that is just how she got her start in Waxhaw. She had no previous contact with the fire department and one day she stopped at the fire department to ask a friend to help her. When he was not there, Hans Speck helped her out. They started talking and she decided to look for a way to get involved in helping the community and get to know her new friend. Initially she had no interest in the fire department, but wanted to spend time with Hans and build a personal relationship with the community. The WVFD fulfilled that need. When their daughter was 6 months old Hannah decided to complete the EMT classes and become certified. Since then she has served the department as the auxiliary president, on the board of directors and is certified to drive the trucks in a hazmat call.
Hannah’s life is not all fire department. She loves to work out and read, but her greatest hobby is being a mom. When asked about her favorite place to vacation, she told me she loves Maine and the mountains. She also told me she loves sushi and could eat Mexican food every day.
If Hannah was not able to continue as an EMT, she said she would like to get involved in social work and work with juveniles.
Hannah’s Tip for the community – Don’t hesitate to call for help. That is why we are there.
