WAXHAW, NC – Matt Stallings is proof that the junior firefighter program is a great way to entice young people to become lifelong fire department members. At 16, Matt realized a childhood dream when he and his friends joined the Wesley Chapel junior firefighter program to serve his local community.
Nineteen years later, with a degree in engineering, Matt left the confines of an office cubicle to become a firefighter and a licensed private pilot. In addition to his pilot’s license, Matt holds certifications for NC Firefighter 1 & 2 and Technical Rescue Driver.
Matt said he would eat just about anything when the topic turned to food, but his favorite food is beef Wellington. Matt replied that he enjoys offshore fishing and flying when asked what he likes to do when he is not at the firehouse. His love for flying prompted him to pursue his commercial pilot’s license. He enjoys it so much that he would become a pilot full-time, if not a firefighter. Matt enjoys going to the beach when not working or flying, but his favorite vacation spot is Las Vegas.
Matt’s Community Tip – Don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors when you change your clocks for daylight savings.
