WAXHAW, NC – Her title might be office administrator for Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department but in actuality her daily activities are so much more. For the past five years Theresa Coan has been with Waxhaw Fire Department on a part-time basis, but not only is she working for Waxhaw she also works for Sandy Ridge fire department.

When asked how she came to work at Waxhaw Fire Department she told me she was recommended for the position by former member Michael Starnes before his passing. To her it seemed like a natural progression since she has been in office administration and accounting all of her life. Since coming to Waxhaw, Teresa has always held an open door policy, she will lend an ear or help anyone that needs her. 

Not only is she the glue that holds the office together,  but Theresa is also a certified firefighter 1 and EMT in North Carolina. She has previously volunteered at Wesley Chapel fire department, Griffith Road fire department and she is currently a lieutenant within the Sandy Ridge fire department. 

Because Teresa is involved with so many fire departments she says her hobbies are all fire related. On the rare occasion she is not doing something with the fire department she enjoys playing softball.

On her time off Theresa enjoys spending time at the coast she’s not particularly fond of any specific beach. This time on the coast allows her to enjoy her favorite food which is shrimp. She says she’ll eat it anyway she can get it. 

Theresa told me that she truly enjoys her job and the only difference she would make if she could was to be certified as a CPA. Teresa is a great asset to the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department and the communities that she serves.
