As the fourth restaurant installment from an already established and successful brand, Yama is ready to take on Ballantyne South with its new Waverly location. Yama at Waverly joins affiliates Baku and Yama Asian Fusion of South Park and Yama Izakaya of Plaza Midwood.
Opened in December, and serving lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, the conveniently located, newest Yama is both modern chic and comfortable. It’s a confluence of different Asian flavors like unagi sauce, teriyaki, spicy aioli, and soy dashi expertly paired with Asian cuisine specialties, such as tempura, goyza, and kalbi, their grilled marinated Korean-style short ribs.
Most ubiquitous throughout their menu, though, is their selection of sushi. From nigiri – fresh fish over rice, sashimi – fish with no rice, and an abundance of rolls, there’s truly something to appeal to all sushi lovers. They have a wealth of specialty rolls, and we’d be remiss not to mention, what else, but the sweet and spicy Waverly Roll, consisting of tempura shrimp, torched salmon, shichimi seasoning, jalapeno, and unagi sauce. Other notable rolls include the Ballantyne Roll, which is spicy tuna wrapped in soy paper with layers of avocado and eel sauce; the Naughty Akami Roll of spicy tuna, cucumber, diced tuna, shichimi seasoning, and pepper threads; and their all veggie Niwa roll, consisting of asparagus, kampyo, cucumber, avocado and kaiware.
And if sushi isn’t your thing, Yama offers a traditional teriyaki chicken, steak, salmon, shrimp, or vegetarian dish, each paired with steamed white rice and sautéed vegetables. In addition, their grilled Chilean sea bass or grilled maple leaf farm duck breast are certainly worthy of a taste!
Receiving prime real estate on the Waverly compound, Yama offers a wide array of seating options for customers, from a full bar, to dining tables, to the sushi bar, and even a spacious outdoor patio. As always, its first come, first serve seating, and as fall weather approaches, the patio will most surely be in high demand.
With its contemporary ambiance and flavor-infusing menu, this newest Yama location has taken the best of Yama in South Park and made it more accessible to the Tri-W market.
