Shopping local for the holidays can mean a morning full of traveling from store to store, trying to find the right gifts. At the end of it all, a trip to a restaurant to get lunch out is often necessary.  But Provisions helps their customers cut back on the holiday rush by being a one-stop shop for both food and gifts.

Buying Local

Provisions Waxhaw always carries products from local vendors- not just at the holidays.  But most of the 95 artisans represented in the space choose to add specialty items during this time of year.

A local alpaca farm makes ornaments, stuffed animals, scarves, and holiday socks.  Iva Jean’s Fudge always has holiday flavors and gift tins that are quite popular. Willow Creek Ducks will have mug cozies available that are perfect for that hot cup of cocoa or coffee. Shaded Design greeting cards make a gift that can be used year round.  Bergamot Cove’s Fall Bliss line will remain available through the holiday season.  And Pat Kitto always has a multi-colored selection of decorative wool Christmas trees available.

Provisions Waxhaw’s own bulk food section also has new items during the season. The candy bins start carrying holiday-themed candies.  And with holiday cooking, the flours and spices are often needed to make freshly prepared dishes. For those who want to spend their time on something other than preparing food, Provisions sells whole quiches and containers of homemade soup.

House brand spices are often purchased to make freshly prepared dishes.

Stopping for Lunch

After customers have shopped away their morning, they don’t have to leave the store for lunch.  The Provisions sandwich shop is open until 3:00.  There is something to eat for everyone, including those with special diets.

Two house soups- tomato basil and broccoli cheese- are offered each day, along with a third soup that is the chef’s choice-of-the-day.  Every soup is gluten free.  Quiche is offered in both regular and gluten free versions. Provisions uses local gluten free bakers for bread and dessert bar options.  There are many vegetarian menu items. And other special diets can often be accommodated.

Special Events and Foods

Provisions is open seven days a week from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm.  They only close for Christmas Day, so for customers that still need to make some last-minute purchases on Christmas Eve, Provisions is the place to shop, eat, and support the community.

Typically, the sandwich shop closes at 3:00.  Quiche, soup, and bakery items can be purchased until closing.  However, on Saturday, December 1st, coffee, hot chocolate, and hot apple cider will be served into the evening as part of the Waxhaw Festival of Lights.

To keep up with daily specials, like the soup and sandwich of the day, or new Christmas products from vendors, follow Provisions Waxhaw on Facebook and provisions_waxhaw on Instagram.
