The Sun Valley Spartans quarterback Sam Howell was recently named the Associated Press North Carolina Offensive Player of the Year and to the All-State team.
We have written about Howell’s on the field performance many times. However, his numbers are record breaking as he threw for 3240 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also gained nearly another 1400 yards and 17 touchdowns rushing in his senior season.
Howell, earlier in the year attended the All-American camp in Canton, Ohio during the summer. He participated in the 2018 Elite 11 quarterback camp. He is ranked the number one quarterback in North Carolina, the second top player in the state, the second pro-style quarterback and third rated quarterback nationally, and overall, the 87th top prospect for the 2019 Class according to 247Sports Composite.
Howell, surpassed Independence High School, and Florida Gators star quarterback Chris Leak’s 15 year-old record for total yardage by almost 500 yards as he accumulated 17,036 yards in his outstanding career.
The Indian Trail student-athlete committed to Florida State before changing direction to remain in the state to sign with North Carolina. He earned 13 votes along with just two other players named to the All-State team.
Howell stands to have a better than fair chance to capture the starting role at North Carolina as a true freshman.
