Featured Athlete of the Week, Swimmers Boyd Poelke and Nicholas Piscitelli

The two Maverick swimmers from Marvin Ridge High School have been selected as co-athletes of the week with their recent performance at the Southern Carolina Conference Swim Meet.

Both swimmers won two individual races and two relay events to lead the Mavericks Boys Swim team to the top spot with 406 points.  Last season, the Mavericks won their second straight 3-A title in swimming and diving.  They appear to be on track again to possibly repeat.  Their toughest competitors are Weddington with 381 points finished second, and Charlotte Catholic had 320 points to place third at the recent Swim Meet.



Boyd Poelke, a junior won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.86, and in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 52.57.  Poelke, won two relay team events with teammates in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:32.45, and finished first in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Nicholas Piscitelli, a sophomore was the victor in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a winning time of 2:20.40, and the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 49.46.  In the relay team events Piscitelli and his teammates won the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:43.75.  In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay the team finished first with a time of 3:30.29.

Both Poelke and Piscitelli competed as individual members of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team for the Mavericks.  They are both preparing for the Regional scheduled for February 1-2, and the 3-A State Swim Meet on February 9-11.
