
The talented running back Jaylen Coleman for the Porter Ridge Pirates had an outstanding season. The Tri-W-News does not usually cover the Pirates, however, this young man and excellent athlete should be recognized for his accomplishments.
In the 2018-19 campaign through 13 games played he has rushed 202 times for 1,931 yards for an average of 9.6 yards per attempt. He has averaged 148.5 yards per game, his longest run from scrimmage is 75 yards, has nine 100 yard plus games and 22 touchdowns. In his career he has amassed 3218 yards rushing on 381 carries for a total of 8.4 yards per rushing attempt. He has 37 touchdowns and only one fumble in three years of varsity football.
In the first round of this years playoffs he rumbled for 241 yards on 15 carries and 3 touchdowns against R.J. Reynolds to lead the Pirates to a 48-22 victory. In the second round playoff game he rushed for 100 yards controlling the ground game for another win.
Coleman committed to Duke University on June 25, 2018. He had other offers from Army, Princeton, Yale and UNC Charlotte. The 6’2″, 200 pound senior was also recognized recently to receive the 2018 High School Leadership Award and will accept his achievement at the Charlotte Touchdown Club established in 1990.
