Unlikely Places for Tiles

While these tiles add color and design to stair risers, you can choose nearly any style, color and shape to enhance your stairs and create an eye-popping look for your home.

We’re used to seeing tiles on backsplashes, floors, and walls, but tiles make a beautiful addition and a designer statement in many unlikely places.

Stair Risers
For an unexpected pop of color and to make your entry stairs or stairwell stand out, applying tiles to your stair risers is unique, beautiful, and durable. While time-consuming to install, tile stair risers allow you to tie your home together, especially if your stairs are near other tiles areas in your home, such as your kitchen. Using complementary tiles, you can carry a tile design from your kitchen or floor to your upper level home.

Kitchen Island
The end or back of your kitchen island is a great place to add tiles and infuse a designer look into your home. You can use the same tiles and design from your backsplash to tie the look together, or if you don’t want to replace your backsplash but want a custom look in your kitchen, tiling the kitchen island end is classy and unexpected.

Tiled Kitchen Island
Tie a kitchen look together—and dress up a plain kitchen island front or end—with gorgeous tiles for a modern and fresh look in your kitchen.

Fireplace
Most fireplaces are stacked stone or marble or granite tiles, but thanks to HGTV and Joanna and Chip Gaines, herringbone tiles around a fireplace have become quite popular lately. Expect to invest some money if the current treatment needs to be removed, as this usually requires significant labor, especially if your fireplace treatment extends the length of your wall. Herringbone tiles, in general, are most costly to purchase and install because this pattern takes patience and flawless installation for a luxurious look. Clients who have replaced a boring fireplace surround with herringbone, arabesque, or encaustic tiles love the look and are willing to invest to beautify this centerpiece of their family/living room. After all, you will be looking at your fireplace surround every day—why not love what you see?

Arabesque Fireplace Surround
Our clients removed a drab square fireplace surround and we replaced it with Arabesque tiles that better match their design tastes.
