Cane Creek Park – Great Family Fun

WAXHAW, NC – One of many local parks our family enjoys visiting is Cane Creek Park in Waxhaw on Harkey Road. We’ve gone for many outings there. The Park covers 1,050 acres surrounding a 350-acre lake in a beautiful, peaceful environment. There’s an assortment of activities although several (beach area and mini-golf for instance) are unavailable right now because of COVID restrictions.

We’ve hiked, kayaked, and biked there and I’m told the fishing is terrific. The lake is home to some of the best largemouth bass fishing in the state as well as bluegill, crappie, and catfish. Although boat rental is not open right now, the boat ramp is, so you can bring your own boat or kayak.

Some of the trails are open to mountain biking and horseback riding while others are dedicated to hikers looking for a peaceful stroll. And it’s one of the few places in the area with a full disc golf course where they even hold tournaments. There’s a picnic table area with shelters where you can enjoy a family lunch. There’s also a campground with both RV and tent spots and some rustic cabins.

One of the most popular activities at the Park is the horse-drawn carriage rides. The rides are currently open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm through Thanksgiving weekend. The fee is $6 for adults and $4 for children with children under 3 free.

Be sure to check the park’s website for updated information
