Sugar Mountain Celebration

WAXHAW, NC – Just before the new stay-at-home order, I spent a fabulous weekend at Sugar Mountain celebrating my birthday. The skiing was fantastic, with fresh snow most of the time. Sugar Mountain is a quick 2 ½ hour drive from Charlotte and well worth the trip. You can ski on 125 acres of terrain with 21 slopes and 8 lifts at Sugar Mountain Resort. Located adjacent to Banner Elk, there are activities galore at Sugar Mountain and we enjoyed a number of them.

We had a blast tubing at Hawksnest. If you’ve never experienced this fun activity, you’re in for a great surprise. Located on the Sugar Mountain Golf Course, the 30 lanes are 400 to 1,000 ft. long and include a lift back up to the top.

We also hiked on the beautiful Elk River Falls Trail, about 15 miles from Sugar Mountain in the Pisgah National Forest. It’s a short-but-steep walk down to the pool below the 50-foot waterfall that funnels through a rock cliff.

The best thing about Sugar Mountain is its location. In addition to Banner Elk and Blowing Rock, it’s only an hour drive to Ashville and nearby the Blue Ridge Parkway. The area offers great restaurants and a variety of places to stay.  There is fun for everyone of all ages.

Please call if you are making plans to travel to the area.  I would love to share my favorite NC hotspots to eat and stay.  Jamie Leggett, NC Native – (704) 650-6345
