CHARLOTTE – On board tonight, we enjoyed a Cheese tasting and education during another Happy hour, followed by a delightful 5-course meal and more wine in our dining room. There was a musical group brought on board tonight in the Lounge. We watched for about an hour until our Wine Tastings had caught up with us, then off to dreamland awaiting more adventures tomorrow.
We passed through the first of 17 River Locks, and we got to enjoy passing through them almost as much as the sights on the Rivers. There were very large Locks, and very tiny locks, all made to exactly fit our River Ship per width – every ship is the same width, some longer, some shorter. They also have collapsible top deck rails so they can pass under low bridges, and even the Pilot House from where the ship is normally steered, can be lowered to pass under low bridges. There is a secondary set of controls on deck when needed.
Day 5 took us to Lyon, one of the major cities along the River. We enjoyed a guided tour, as well as a tour of the Culinary and Wine attributes of this great city. Walls were replete with Murals, some painted by well know artists, and some by talented locals.
