Assessment and Massage

CHARLOTTE – Another popular issue our clients are dealing with is neck pain. Most people come in saying they slept wrong or overworked their necks while doing some sort of strenuous activity, such as yard work. Truth is, it could be a variety of issues. It could be an old injury that’s been awakened with an activity or it can be a new injury that occurred and may have seemed minor at the time but has advanced to a place where it’s going to have to be addressed.

Pain is pretty interesting in the body. Look at it as a warning system, sounding the alarm, sometimes blasting the horn. Sometimes we may wake up and our neck is stiff. Once we get moving through and get through part of our day the stiffness might go away. Then tomorrow we start the same pattern again. It doesn’t have to be this way. How do we find a solution?

First, we need to examine what part of your neck is actually hurting, and what is the origin of the pain. Is it muscular? Is it nerve-related? Is the nerve involved being strangled by a muscle? Or is the nerve being compressed by bone? The way your massage therapist addresses this will begin primarily with assessment. Therapists must make an initial assessment to find where the origin of the problem most likely is. Your massage therapist will constantly reassess in order to adjust their treatment options and address other issues that might become exposed.
