Low Back Pain

CHARLOTTE – This week I’ve had several new clients reach out to me complaining of back pain, mostly low back tightness across the sacrum. What is the culprit and what is the solution? With low back pain, it’s important to figure out or assess, to find out where the pain might be coming from. With this type of pain, several things could be the culprit.

As my client, when you walk in with pain, injury or other issues, I’ll ask you where it hurts or bothers you. What specific area of the body is being affected?  Your answer might be low back, glutes, hamstrings, middle back or even shoulder area are problematic. You might pinpoint one area, but more than likely it’s a combination of areas that are causing discomfort.

Next, we’ll look at the action you were performing once you noticed the pain. This past week alone the answers to this question were: I had to sit for a long period of time, I had to stand for a long time OR I had to do a repetitive motion (such as typing, computer work, horseback riding) OR it only hurts when I reach for something. Believe it or not, those answers can help your massage therapist get a better overall picture of what might be happening. Along with testing out different muscles to pinpoint the troublemaker, we will assess to see not only what the main issue is but what other muscles might be contributing to the problem.
