February 19 –
Siela Boutique first opened its doors to Waxhaw shoppers in November and they celebrated their successful opening with a ribbon cutting sponsored by the WBA on February 19. Their motto is “people, planet, purpose.” Owners Kim Nelson and Alara Baltmiskis addressed their guests, along WBA VP Tony Garshnick and Waxhaw Mayor Steve Maher.

WBA February Meeting
Town of Waxhaw Mayor Steve Maher joined the WBA to discuss town growth, economic development, transportation, code enforcement and more at the February 20, WBA meeting. Highlights included:
- learning about a traffic light coming to Gray Byrum Rd and Rt 16 this year;
- there is a plan for the Hall Family YMCA with advisory board expected to be in place by June 2019;
- the town is gaining 40 additional parking spots downtown behind the Nivens Price building.
Maher added that the town’s financials are strong and 2019 is a pivotal year for the board to decide if Waxhaw is going to have an economic development plan for growth or if we want to be a bedroom community. He also hailed the town’s increased diversity in terms of population, vision and faith, which leads to a greater diversity of thought and more good ideas.
