Move over Snapchat, TikTok is the new thing

Well honestly, TikTok isn’t really that new, but unless you’re a young person it’s likely you haven’t heard about it yet. But you’re going to because it’s growing.

TikTok used to be Musical.ly, an app where users can record up to 15 seconds of footage and string those clips together to make stories of up to 60 seconds long.

The app is immensely popular among teens and young people with more than 100 million users. This means parents need to be aware of it and there’s an opportunity for marketing and community building.

The app allows users to send direct messages as well as post public videos or they can limit who can see their videos by making their account private.

The catch is those 15-second videos, the time restraint forces creativity and that’s exactly why TikTok is so much fun and gaining popularity.

Parents should monitor their kids using the app as they would any social media, especially since there is a direct message feature, but with the video clips being so short, there aren’t many that could be viewed as dangerous.

How could a business use TikTok? Short video clips are one of the most popular types of content, using the app for inspiration or to connect with a younger audience are viable options.
