Santhoshi’s Kitchen, owned by Santhoshi Radhakrishnan of Fort Mill, SC, makes Savory Tomato Chutney based on a traditional Southern Indian recipe. Radhakrishnan says, “This Tomato Chutney is one of my favorite recipes. I have fond childhood memories about this chutney and now my kids love it too! Whenever I make this for my friends, they will all compliment me. Once, I invited my friend Chris and her husband for lunch. They liked all the dishes I made, but they loved my Tomato Chutney in particular. Once her husband jokingly said to me that if I can make the tomato chutneys and sell them in jars, he would buy one jar every week. Last year, I was thinking to expand my business from [the Indian] cooking classes I teach to the next level. And suddenly, this idea of making and selling tomato chutney popped in my mind. I am a very religious person and I felt that it was God’s way of telling me to start this business.”
Radhakrishnan approached Lisa Vigil, co-owner of Provisions Waxhaw, about carrying her savory chutney in her store. After trying it, Vigil started stocking it on the shelves! Radhakrishnan says, “I had a very good feeling when I walked into the Provisions Waxhaw for the very first time. There is something special about that store. And my kids love to hangout at the store, while I give samples of my chutney to the customers. I feel very grateful to be a vendor at the Provisions Waxhaw.”
