Ellen Stevens, of Weddington, NC, started She’s Pesto in 2012 by chance. Interested in farming, Stevens had produced a large batch of basil that she planned to sell to a restaurant. When the restaurant dropped their order, Steven’s had to get creative to save all that hard work. A neighbor suggested pesto and the rest is history! Now producing a chunky, traditional pesto that uses only local, sustainably grown basil and the finest ingredients, you can pick up your own jar of She’s Pesto at Provisions Waxhaw.

Lisa Vigil, co-owner of Provisions Waxhaw, had heard about She’s Pesto and asked Stevens if she was interested in selling her pesto locally. Steven’s says, “Because Provisions is open year-round it has been a tremendous help in evening out the demand for She’s Pesto. I love getting to go there and give out samples and meet the folks at provisions. The atmosphere is amazing, and the food!!! Great combo!”

She continues, “I’ve been amazed and overwhelmed with how supportive folks have been and how much people love this pesto. I love working with local farmers to buy their basil and I love that what I do helps them out. I have also intentionally tried to sell she’s Pesto only at small, locally-owned stores in the area so that it also helps them out. It’s one big circle and everyone is supporting locally made products.”
