Thames Farm in Fort Lawn, SC specializes in pasture raised Berkshire Pork, pasture raised chickens, seasonal lamb and seasonal turkeys, along with fresh eggs. And you can pick it all up at Provisions Waxhaw. Since 2013, Amy Thames has been selling the meat she raises to several places in SC. She became involved with Provisions after being approached by Lisa Vigil, President, to carry the meats in her store. Thames loves working with Provisions. “It’s been great expanding our business through Provisions. Anytime you increase your market base it’s a good thing. I feel like we provide great products for Provisions customers and I have met some other great vendors through Provisions.”
Thames has always loved farming and wanted to be a more conscious consumer of meat and know where and how it was raised. That led to a simple solution for her. Raise it on her own farm. “Our philosophy is a simple one: HUMANE FARMING. We do not practice any confinement with our pigs and our poultry are raised only in the seasons that allow us to keep them out on pasture. We closely control our feeding, handling and care until the day of processing. We use the only Certified Animal Welfare Approved processing facility in S.C. This allows us to know that our animals are treated as humanely as possible during the period of processing.” Thames goes on to explain, “At Thames Farm, we know the quality and taste of our products is unmatched. The Berkshire (Kurubuta) hog is a heritage breed and the pork of choice for some of the top Chef’s in the country. Berkshire pork has been featured on top shows such as Chopped on the Food Network Channel and BBQ Pitmasters on the Travel Channel. Berkshire pork has won blind taste testings and is known for its juicy and tender qualities. Berkshire pork is considered the “Kobe” / “Wagyu” of the pork world.”
