While growing up in Sarasota, Florida, Holly Ricci learned to pick up a hammer from her father who taught Industrial Arts and built houses in his spare time. With an interest in tackling her own home renovations when she got older, Holly installed new cabinets in her first condo. With help from her husband, the first of many projects was a success. “We both come from a family of builders, so it’s in our blood,” said Holly.
Now the owner of her own small business, Holly uses her skills to create various home decor items and signs from reclaimed wood and pallets. The Yellow Lemon was born out of her desire to create beautiful pieces for others. Some of her best sellers include large wall clocks and reversible front porch signs which can be purchased at Shabby Chic in downtown Waxhaw.
“I love making the large wall clocks. It makes me think of my grandfather who also had a fondness for making clocks. I also love making pillows to toss in your favorite spot and front porch signs to invite guests in.”

As a busy mom of three, Holly works hard to create unique items with a personalized touch. She keeps a variety of items at Shabby Chic and is also happy to take custom orders. Holly enjoys designing new items, while keeping some of the local favorites like the Waxhaw signs and pillows in stock.
“I started at Shabby Chic with only a small amount of home decor and signs. The pillows were later added to my scope of work. Sewing is something my mother taught me as a child. I completed two quilts by the age of fourteen.”

Holly’s goal is to continue to enjoy her work while balancing it with family life. If you have an opportunity, stop into Shabby Chic to check out some of Holly’s designs, or reach out to her directly at 704-770-1941. The pillows, clocks, and signs make great gifts and support local business.
