Hollyhocks, Lillies, Dahlias and Roses are blooming in gardens all over the Southeast. I have long admired the yards of people who grow these beauties and manage to keep them healthy and beautiful looking all Summer. I love all flowers, but my favorite comes from Mexico, and no matter how much you neglect it, the Zinnia blooms all summer with happy, vibrant blooms.
Zinnias originally come from Mexico, and the single bloom variety attracts Monarchs, Swallowtails, and Hummingbirds. They make an excellent cutting flower, and nothing will bring a smile to someone’s face quicker than a bouquet of colorful zinnias.
Zinnias are an excellent flower for novice gardeners as they build confidence. Anyone can grow them!
Grab yourself a pack of Zinnia seeds the next time you are out. When you get home- scratch out a patch of dirt and plant them. It doesn’t take long for them to come up and you have a great yield with just a little bit of effort.
That’s the news from the homestead, see you next week!
