CHARLOTTE – Why do GFCI outlets and circuit breakers “trip” or “pop”?
Tripping and popping can occur due to a couple different scenarios but not limited to the ones listed here:
1. A power surge from your electrical supplier or lightning strike occurs.
2. Large appliances with old technology
3. Moister
4. Overload from too many appliances being on the same circuit.

Resetting a GFCI Outlet or a Circuit Breaker are common electrical fixes a homeowner can do themselves before they need to call a professional.

Resetting a GFCI Outlet
1. Remove anything plugged into the outlet or on the same circuit.
2. Reset by pressing the “reset” button on GFCI outlet.
3. Plug the items back into the GFCI outlet one at a time.
* If it immediately trips again, please contact a trained professional electrician.

Resetting a Circuit Breaker
1. Turn “Off” all the light switches and unplug everything in the affected room(s).
2. Open the door on the circuit breaker panel. (a flashlight may be required, and your panel may not have a door)

3b. Run your finger down the side of the breaker with light pressure, you may feel the difference more than you can see the tripped breaker.
