
Marvin Ridge MavericksÂ
Soccer:
Nick Jones: The senior has led the potent Maverick attack all season. The team has six different players who have scored 10 goals or more. Jones had 18 goals, 7 assists for 43 points on the season. He also had the two best chances to score in the State Championship 3A Title game.
Patrick Papa: The senior led the team in total points with 49 on the season. He had 18 goals and 13 assists for the Mavericks.
Zenou Tchamwa: The assist leader with 14 this senior also scored 16 goals for a total of 46 points second on the team.
Ben Wood:Â Another senior who scored 12 goals while accumulating 8 assists for 32 points made a significant contribution for the Mavericks.
Anthony Garuba: The up and coming sophomore scored 16 goals and added 2 assists for 34 points to make a nice contribution while adding balance to the Mavericks attack.
Matt Semcesen: The sophomore goalkeeper has a good future ahead of himself at Marvin Ridge. In 23 games in goal he had 11 shutouts with 18 wins and only 3 losses.
Sun Valley SpartansÂ
Football:
Sam Howell: The senior QB broke the NCHSAA record for total all-purpose yards in a career. Howell threw for 3 touchdowns and rushed for another in the teams win over Cox Mill. He had big plays of 60, 70 and 45 yards threw the air. Howell finished the regular season with 2828 yards passing and 32 TD’s.
Gavin Blackwell: The talented wide receiver had a solid sophomore season accumulating 1089 yards receiving with 18 touchdowns on 46 receptions for the Spartans. He is one of the top receivers in Union County and is highly recruited.
Isiah Hall:Â The senior wide receiver who had 657 receiving yards during the season on 34 catches along with 10 TD’s caught two touchdowns passes for 70 and 45 yards in the Cox Mill victory in the first round of the State Championship Playoffs.
Honorable Mention: Christian McIntosh caught a 60 yard touchdown reception for the Spartans for the first touchdown in the game against Cox Mill.
Weddington WarriorsÂ
Football:Â
Will Shipley: The all-purpose back for the Warriors has carried the ball 139 times for 950 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has averaged 6.8 yards on the ground per carry, and has caught 25 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns receiving this season.
James Shipley: The two-way player of the dynamic duo at Weddington had 41 catches for 500 yards and seven touchdowns so far this season. He has four return touchdowns including a team leading 11 passes defensed. Shipley had a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter in the first round playoff game.
Whitner Litton: The senior QB connected on three touchdown passes in the first half completing 9-11 passes. His touchdowns were for 11, 10, and 17 yards to three different receivers.
Honorable Mention: Max Brimigion scored two touchdowns, Ian Williams connected on two field goals including a 50 yard kick, Riley Garden had an 11 yard TD run, Eamon Murphy with a 13 yard TD reception, Trey Alsbrooks had a pick six on defense.
