Wrestling:
Jack Wilton – The all-conference linebacker won the 182 pound title at the Bobby Abernathy Memorial Wrestling Invitational this past Saturday at Piedmont High School. He pinned 3 of 4 opponents and his first-period pin in the final was against a returning state 4A qualifier.
Weddington Warriors
Wayne Dixie – The Warriors running back rushed for 84 yards on 8 carries and three touchdowns including a 42 yard scamper in the state semi-finals game against Mount Tabor to win the West Region and an opportunity for a State Championship this coming Friday night.
Will Shipley – The talented sophomore who is attracting attention from college recruits for scholarships offers had a solid game gaining 75 yards on the ground on 16 carries, catching two passes for 27 yards and scoring two rushing touchdowns, one on a 17 shovel pass and tossing a 2 yard TD in the big win.
Ian Williams – Connected on a 44 yard field goal to put the Warriors up 38-6 with 11:53 remaining in the football game.
Basketball:
Chris Killings – The senior guard is averaging 13.2 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the Warriors.
Chase Lowe – This freshman guard is making his mark early in the season averaging 12.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.8 steals giving the Spartans a solid back court combination.
