As seasons change, your skin may become dry, flaky or even have more oil than usual. Many adults keep a broad selection of facial products however, our hair and body also require maintenance to endure seasonal changes. As summer ends, consider hydrating or exfoliating body treatments; non-medical treatments for the body that are similar to a facial for the face.

Mud wraps are body treatments that are generally used to detox the body by wrapping both sides of the body with mud. Dating as far back as ancient civilizations and Cleopatra, mud has been used for beauty, skin cleansing, and detox in many cultures of the world by indigenous people. Black Moor Mud originates from central Europe and is used for detox and to improve muscular fatigue. Desert mud wraps are rich in copper and seaweed wraps are used for detox and hydration. Coffee wraps help to improve skin texture. Body wraps are widely used throughout the world and can be found in upscale wellness spas.

Salt scrubs and sugar scrubs exfoliate the skin, with a goal of removing dead skin cells and impurities. Salt has healing and antiseptic properties and is a stronger exfoliant. Sugar is often recommended for sensitive skin and is less abrasive, however some salt scrubs are available in fine crystals.

Body treatments are highly varied but common offerings include a focus on hydration, exfoliation, polishing, or general detoxing the body. Treatments should be relaxing and ingredients should always be natural or organic. For best results, clients should be well hydrated before the treatment. A body treatment at your local spa is an opportunity to de-stress and relax, while someone takes care of you!
