What Makes Waxhaw Wonderful

As I sit down at my keyboard and think about the weekend ahead, I can’t help but be excited to live in the Charlotte area.

There are so many great events taking place this weekend.  From the PGA golf tournament at Quail Hollow in the SouthPark area to the Untappd Beer Festival at the Panthers football stadium on Saturday to the Cinqo de Puppo 5K race in Ballantyne on Sunday.

But I’m even more excited to live near Waxhaw because of all there is to do here, not only this weekend, but throughout the year.

Waxhaw loves festivals and we love parades.  Case in point, the Kaleidoscope Fest on May 18 and Autumn Treasures Festival in the Fall, as well as the Independence Day and Christmas parades.

Even our businesses know how to put on big events like Mary O’Neill’s two-day St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the brown gravel lot at Broome St. (Hwy 16) and North Main.

But this upcoming Saturday, May 4, is one that’s extra special to me because it represents what the Town of Waxhaw and its residents are all about.

There are two big events taking place in downtown Waxhaw which will coincide and overlap with one another and which support the arts and our four-legged best friends at their cutest – puppies!

The first event, Waxhaw Art Crawl, lasts from 10 a.m. til 6 p.m. on the sidewalks of Waxhaw.

More than 50 artists will be showing and selling their work all over the downtown area and walking maps will be available to lead from each location to the next. Balloons and signage will mark each gallery or business hosting an artist.

The other event, Pups ‘N Pints, takes place from noon till 5:00 p.m. in the same brown gravel lot next to Mary O’Neill’s in downtown Waxhaw.

The 3rd annual Pups ‘N Pints is especially near and dear to my heart because my business – Jimmy Grappone, Real Estate powered by Costello REI – is co-hosting along with Passionate Paws Animal Hospital for the 3rd consecutive year and Mary O’Neill’s for the 2nd straight year.

Our tagline is “Drink a Pint. Adopt a Pup.” That should say enough, but there’ll also be live music by Funkyard Dog, a DJ, Killer Q and New Wrap Order food trucks, lots of vendors, about a dozen or so giveaways valued at $40 or more each, a puppy zone, kid zone, food & beer zone, and more!

You’ll read about both FREE events in this very issue of Tri-W News and I encourage you to support both causes.  Waxhaw Art Crawl supports local artists, of which there are many, and Pups ‘N Pints fosters pet adoption and raises money for South Charlotte Dog Rescue.

I look forward to checking out both events.  Stop by my booth at Pups ‘N Pints and say hello.  I’ll have a big banner with my face and logo on it, so I’ll be hard to miss!
