Social Media Used To Be Fun, It Still Can Be

CHARLOTTE – Remember when cat videos ruled social media? Everyone was sharing funny videos and pictures and social media seemed to be a lot more fun.

As social media matures it often feels like all the fun is gone, but it doesn’t have to be.

As a communication tool, social media is powerful and it was only a matter of time before that power was harnessed to, well, communicate important information.

With information now flooding newsfeeds and drowning out the fun stuff, how can you find it?

The volume of content in social media isn’t just growing too quickly, there’s already too much. Far too much in fact. That’s why we have algorithms to begin with, because no one can possibly see everything in their newsfeed anymore.

To find more fun in your newsfeed, niche down. Find groups that specifically cater to your interests, follow accounts that do. Curation is where it’s at on social media and the success of sites like Buzzfeed and the rise of email newsletters that curate content proves it.

Find those newsletters that deal with the topics you are interested in. If you love cat videos, search for them and start liking them whenever you see one on your newsfeed and the algorithm will show you more.

It takes a little more work to find the right content curation service, but once you do, it reminds you how fun and useful social media can be.
