Welcome sweet Petunia June (PJ) to her new life! PJ took her freedom ride from the Union County Animal Shelter in late February and oh what a ride it was. We received word that PJ was an owner surrender into the shelter along with three other females. All four dogs did not have names, they were simply numbers. Petunia was known as #3. All four dogs were NOT spayed and housed with intact males, the possibility of pregnancy was high. Upon surrender, the owner stated to the officers that all of the puppies had died. UC officers did not know if that meant that all 4 had litters that had passed, one had a litter that had passed…..the details were incredibly vague. Given the way PJ looked, the shelter thought that she was pregnant. We went straight from the shelter to the vet to do an X-ray only to find that PJ was not pregnant, but had a litter very recently; our hearts broke. What happened to these babies? Our minds can only wonder and our hearts can only pray that they went peacefully and humanely. PJ looks as though she has been through hell and back. She has multiple puncture wounds and healed scars, her tail was broken and has healed crooked, and she was covered in fleas. Her body, a small 34 lbs, tells a horror story of her past, a past that she will hopefully soon forget. She is on the road to recovery and I think she knows it. That crooked tail wags, she smiles a faint smile….she is starting to feel the love that she so much deserves. Welcome, Petunia June, to the beginning of a wonderful life. We look forward to finding you the perfect family, the perfect home and you’re happily ever after.
Update from her foster mom…Petunia is wonderful, she is like a pig. Literally, that’s how she acts. Snores really loud, loves everyone, lazybones.  Housebroken and oh so sweet, Petunia is the perfect match for any laid back family. She doesn’t like too much exercise and loves to sleep in bed at night. No need for a crate at any time as she is a couch potato 24/7. Great with kids, adults, other dogs, cats, and goats! If you are interested in Petuna, please visit http://southcharlottedogrescue.com/ and fill out an adoption application!
