WEDDINGTON, NC – A new Atrium Health emergency department has opened at 11516 Providence Road, across from the Waverly shopping center.
As of Tuesday, June 23rd, residents of Weddington, Waxhaw, and Matthews will have increased access to emergency care, with the opening of Atrium’s new facility. The new emergency department will bear some of the load carried by Atrium’s auxiliary Waxhaw facility, located further south on Providence Rd.

Alicia Campbell, facility executive of Atrium Health Pineville, said as South Charlotte and Union County experience the fastest growth rates in the area, that having an emergency department close to home will help patients avoid traffic and promptly receive care.
President of the Greater Charlotte Region for Atrium Health, Ken D. Haynes, said that the new emergency department helps to further Atrium’s mission of health, hope, and healing for all. Haynes said that timeliness is an essential aspect of patient outcomes and an essential aspect of Atrium’s work as a healthcare system.

The opening was a great day for Atrium, Haynes said, as a component of their journey to grow alongside the Union and Mecklenburg communities.
Antigone Branch, director of nursing at Atrium Health, said that from a clinical perspective, they have a great team on board at Atrium Health Providence, ready to care for all of the community’s emergent needs.

Their staff, she said, is a highly experienced and well-trained group of clinical personnel, ranging from doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, to mental health emergency care personnel, care coordinators, imaging technicians, and more.

The facility’s free-standing model, Branch said, allows for personalized, patient-centered care, by way of its intimate size, and dedicated care team.
“Whether it’s a broken bone, severe cut, heart attack, or stroke,” she said, “the team at Atrium Health Providence will be prepared and ready to help the community heal.”
Having care that is close to home, Branch said, can truly be the difference between life and death in an emergency situation.
