Southern living isn’t exactly synonymous with snow, so you might be surprised to hear that finding the perfect snowball in Waxhaw is simple in the summertime.

Pelicans Snowballs is one of the newest arrivals to the food scene in Waxhaw, and it’s been the talk of the town ever since.

Located in the charming new strip mall beside Eight Legs Gallery and across E. South Main Street from The Mill, the snowcone spot is easily accessed from historic downtown and provides plenty of outside space for customers to relax and socializes.

While the outdoor seating and corn hole boards are great additions to Pelicans, the real draw is their famously delicious shaved ice.

As any good fair-goer or boardwalk stroller knows, all snow cones are not created equal. Pelicans Snoballs may just be the reigning king of the cone. With its light texture and intense flavor, Pelicans provides customers with a tango on their tongues. A tasty and delightful experience for all their senses, Pelicans Snowballs are a traditional “New Orleans” style of shaved ice that are sure to please.

In fact, it was this phenomenal snow cone encounter that drove owners Dwayne and Kimberly Johnson to deviate from their corporate jobs to venture into the world of shaved ice. Kimberly recounts how Dwayne once “fell in love with this snoball” from an Uptown Pelicans location, and the rest, as they say, is history.

With over 120 different flavor options, including sugar-free choices, there’s a snoball for everyone to fall in love with themselves. Some of their more creative choices include Dill Pickle and Toothpaste! Are you brave enough to try these unusual tongue-tinglers?

Once you’ve made your selection, finish off your cold creation with toppings ranging from condensed milk, to marshmallow, to chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and even gummies.

Additionally, the nut free and gluten free aspect of Pelicans Snoballs makes it a favorite for customers with food allergies and intolerances looking for a satisfying treat.

The hotspot is open daily from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday in the months of March through October.

If gift-giving is what you’re into, share the love and purchase Pelican Bucks. These gift cards can be bought at the Waxhaw location for $20 and used like cash for a $25 value. That’s a sweet treat for both the giver and the receiver!
