Fans of Cuthbertson football finally had the opportunity to see the Cavaliers in full-contact action last Friday at the school’s 2019 Cavalier Kick Off. Fans came out in large numbers to celebrate the beginning of a new era of Cuthbertson football as they witnessed new head coach Trey Kavanaugh’s game plan in action for the first time.

Fans were excited and ready for football as they arrived for the year’s first Cavalier Tailgate where the school provided free food and games for all of the fans and family that came out to support the Cavaliers. Members of the community chatted about the prospects of this year’s team while they tossed cornhole bags and played football and soccer until the Cavaliers were ready to take field.

As soon as the first whistle blew, the crowd’s attention zeroed in as they finally got to see their team play. The Cavalier Blue and Gold Game featured the Cavalier football squad versus none other than themselves and the fans had no problem cheering for both sides. Cuthbertson’s gritty yet graceful offense saw the crowd erupt every time a ball was passed and the defense spurred gasps and cheers as their crisp and powerful play-stopping abilities showed through on every tackle.

This year, the Cavaliers are celebrating their football program’s tenth year and the excitement is palpable as a new football culture is implemented. Head coach Trey Kavanaugh’s plan to rebuild from the ground up is coming into form and the Cavaliers are ready to make a more competitive showing this year. With a strong, new game plan and a dedicated, enthusiastic fanbase, the Cavaliers look poised for success as they move forward into week one of NCHSAA football.
