Former Weddington High School kicking star Keith Duncan is breaking records in Iowa, and leaving a big mark on Big Ten football as he finishes his fourth season with the Hawkeyes. On Nov. 9, Duncan broke the University of Iowa school record for field goals in a season, ringing up 23 by that point. In his four field goal game against Illinois on Saturday, Duncan broke the Big Ten record for field goals in a season with 27.

Duncan is no stranger to record-breaking, however, as his name is still scattered across the NCHSAA record book from his time at Weddington. He currently holds the NCHSAA record for single-season field goals (22), career field goals (51) and consecutive PATs (104). Duncan’s NCHSAA career field goal record seems to be under little threat, with the second place record standing at only 37 made kicks. As a Weddington athlete, Duncan earned multiple honors including all-county, all-state and all-American selections.

With an 84.4 percent conversion rate on 32 attempts, Keith Duncan has been one of the most reliable and important components of Iowa’s offense this year. While it is less than ideal for a team to go for more field goals than touchdowns, it must be a great relief for the Hawkeyes to have one of the nation’s greatest kickers on their roster, especially when the special teams squad graces the field so often. After Duncan’s four field goal game against Purdue in October, he was announced as a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate place-kicker. Duncan currently leads the nation in field goals made; 12 of those have been from at least 40 yards out. Duncan was announced as one of three finalists in the running for the award on Monday, Nov. 25.
