For owner, Shawn Causey, Refresh was happened upon naturally. As the mother of three young children, one of which had severe eczema, Causey was introduced to the world of natural and gentle products before they were popular. Years ago, in response to the need for something that didn’t irritate her son’s sensitive skin, she began to delve into the production and creation of these care-products on her own.

Today, Shawn has turned her experience and passion into a second career with the opening of Refresh; a new niche shop in Waxhaw that sells what everyone needs to indulge in the natural care lifestyle without leaving the town limits.

Refresh is located on East S. Main St, alongside the recently opened Sodi Pops candy shop and Pelican Snoball. Keeping with the feel of its neighbors, Refresh offers as many locally sourced products as possible. Much of its extensive inventory comes from within North Carolina, as Shawn purposely seeks out opportunities to support other local small businesses. In fact, she chose to open her retail outlet in Waxhaw specifically because of the small business-friendly atmosphere of the town.

Having originally moved to the area 14 years ago, leaving for her husband’s military career, and then returning just four years back, Shawn has had part of her heart in Waxhaw since before the boom. Now, she’s jumping at the chance to share her knowledge and love of her natural products with a community she relishes.

Refresh’s space is dotted with items that Causey has hand selected to share with others because she has seen their benefits in person. As a therapist, Causey has come to incorporate essential oils in her sessions with clients and has seen great success in this melding. Essential oils have become increasingly popular over the last several years, and Causey offers her own handmade blends for purchase in her store as well as a plethora of information on their uses.

The retailer also focuses on natural soaps and shampoos, some of which are organic, for those who desire something soothing to use on their skin.

If you enjoy soaking in the tub, you will find pleasure in Refresh’s bath bombs and soaking products, but may also like to pick from a selection of shower steamers as well. The steamers infuse essential oils into your shower for a mind and body benefit.

No one is forgotten at Refresh as the specific needs of men are also addressed in the boutique shop through an offering of delightful and face-friendly shaving products and male grooming formulas in addition to the unisex options.

Refresh is open every day through the Christmas season, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. In January they will return to normal operating hours of Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They are closed on Sunday.
