The Grill’n & Chill’n BBQ Cook Off, sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society, was held on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 during the annual Autumn Treasures Festival in Downtown Waxhaw. With more than 30 teams from all over the Carolinas, competition was fierce among the 6 categories: People’s Choice, Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, and Pork Butt. This year, they raised over $3,500 for the South Charlotte Dog Rescue and gave out some big money prizes including $1000 to the Reserve Champion and $2000 to the Grand Champion. Winners included: People’s Choice: Screaming Night Hog; Pork Butt: Smoke and Brew Mafia; Chicken: Contagious Q; Ribs: Smoke Monster BBQ; Pulled Pork: Smoke and Brew Mafia; Brisket: Smoke and Brew Mafia; Reserve Champion: Contagious Q; and Grand Champion: Under the Radar BBQ. Mickey and Sybill Williams were the Kansas City BBQ Society representatives at the competition.

Owen is 2 months and his favorite BBQ is Smokin Peppers!Larry and Phillip Burgess with Q & Stew BBQ Team. “We had a great time and saw a lot of people today.”A large group of friends, both new and old, came downtown to enjoy the BBQ Cook Off and Autumn Treasures. Crowd favorites were: Baloney Joe’s BBQ and Bayou Poker Smoker.Left – Arnie Howard, of Baloney Joe’s BBQ from Moorseville, came for the BBQ test. “I compete in as many [cook-off’s] in the local areas as possible.
