The streets of Waxhaw are bustling with new and growing local businesses, and Art Box Ceramics and Canvas is no exception. The Art Box located inside the eclectic Eight Legs Gallery in downtown Waxhaw is bursting with color, fun art, creative classes and camps, and most of all a passion for permeating the arts into the fabric of Waxhaw’s local art scene!
“For 2020, we are growing our Kid’s Art Program with Tuesday art classes, Spring Break Workshops, and all new projects for our Summer Camp! But most people don’t realize we offer adult art classes, too!!” explains owner and artist, Kristin Mitchell. This year, the Art Box will also host several community painting events with the Town of Waxhaw for seniors, families, and kids. “We love being interlaced into our community through the arts! As a guest artist at Cuthbertson Middle School, I think the students’ creativity was just as inspiring to me as I hoped to be to them!”, says Mitchell.
Mitchell’s passion is to spread the joy of the arts through the unique experiences that her studio offers. Art Box Ceramics and Canvas opened 3 years ago in a single room inside of Eight Leg Gallery. “We’ve touched the hearts of families in Waxhaw through our ceramic and canvas painting classes and have been blessed to grow each year!” Now, patrons of the Art Box can paint pottery in the studio by class or appointment, host a birthday or group event in the party room, and get muddy on the pottery wheels under the new outdoor pottery pavilion!
Grabbing an apron at the Art Box with Kristin Mitchell and her staff means getting a little paint or clay on your hands. But it also means, experiencing all the shops inside of Eight Legs Gallery; sip on a hot tea from Uptown Tea Shop, explore local art for inspiration, and try your hand at pottery and painting! It’s a truly unique experience for Waxhaw! Please call Kristin at 704-962-0913 for more information.
