WEDDINGTON, NC – Holiday plans have been impacted across the board this year in the name of social distancing. The Town of Weddington’s plans changed this season as well, but the town still found a great way to capture the Christmas spirit.

With a virtual tree lighting ceremony, and a neighborhood ride-through featuring Weddington mayor Elizabeth Callis, Miss Union-County Christmas parade princess Aly McNair, and Santa waving from a fire engine, Weddington brought in the joy of the holiday season with their signature brand of creativity.
This year’s Christmas tree lighting, held on November 20, was previewed earlier in the week with a video from the Town of Weddington, featuring well-wishing messages from members of the town council and Mayor Callis.

While short, the Christmas tree lighting brought about some much-needed positivity via miss Union-County Christmas Parade Princess Aly McNair. Leading up to her lighting of the tree with a magic wand, Mcnair shared the Town’s holiday message.

“Traditions are looking a little bit different this year,” said McNair, “but the sentiment is still the same: sharing the spirit and good-will of the holiday season. The Town of Weddington wishes the residents and their families, far and wide, a very merry Christmas and a joyous New-Year.”
