CHARLOTTE – The Matthews Heritage Museum is pleased to announce it will hold its annual Victorian Lawn Party on Saturday, April 9, 2022. The year is 1915 and you are invited to Dr. & Mrs. T.N. Reids annual Victorian Lawn Party at their home at 134 W. John Street from 12 to 4 p.m.that Saturday. Step back in time and learn how the early residents of Matthews got together and enjoyed each other’s company.

You can partake in activities that were common in the early 20th century. You can make note cards out of eggshell mosaics! Participate in the Maypole Dance which almost every school child would have done. Skilled artisans will teach you about wood carving or basket making. And children will learn about planting seeds and growing food!

Dr. and Mrs. Reid will welcome guests as they tour their lovely home (donation suggested). Be sure to leave your calling card, as is the proper custom of the day. (We will provide.) The Reid’s will tell you about their Matthews, and how they would hop a train to spend a day in Charlotte.

The event is free to the public. We are happy to bring this event back after not having it for two years because of Covid. The Museum will also be open that day from 12 to 4. The museum is located at 232 N. Trade Street. If you want to learn more about the Reid family, the current exhibit is Rediscovering the Reids. The Museum will also be free this day. Plan a family outing and stop by a local restaurant!
