Waxhaw has always been known for its quaint charm, but it’s about to get a healthy dose of southern soul, courtesy of Cureton Shopping Center’s newest tenant, Moe’s Original Bar B Que.
Bookending the Harris Teeter strip with the other Moe’s [Southwest Grill], this one will offer freshly prepared, high quality smoked meats, accompanied by traditional Southern sides.
Co-owned by brothers Craig and Drew Fairhurst, this will be their second installment of the successful restaurant; their first, established in Matthews five years ago. Most famous for their Alabama-style barbeque, they sop their fan favorite pork with a vinegar-based white sauce, then top the meat with a mild tomato base. Their menu staples include the always popular Pulled Pork, but also include Southern Fried Catfish served with a choice of hush puppies or cornbread, Smoked Half Chicken, served pulled or on the bone, St.Louis-style pork ribs, and Smoked Turkey and Smoked Chicken Wings. Their menu options will closely follow that of their Matthews location, albeit different specials, announced daily.
As for venturing into the Waxhaw market, this is something the brothers have been eager to do since they first opened their doors in Matthews. “Our goal was always to open multiple locations throughout the Charlotte area. We chose Waxhaw as the [next] spot because there’s not a lot of competition and it’s a growing market,” said Craig. “We’re really looking forward to growing our business here.”
Customers can expect a counter service style with a laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere, complete with multiple TVs for watching the game and a weekly, kids-eat-free night! In addition, they will sample a healthy selection of craft beers, rotated frequently and sourced locally.
Craig hopes to open Moe’s doors in Waxhaw in mid-to late March, and is looking forward to entertaining diners in-house as well as offering pick-up and even catering for special events. Be on the lookout for their official opening!
