WAXHAW, NC – During the October 25th Town of Waxhaw’s BOC Meeting, Chief Collins presented the award to two members of Waxhaw’s Police Department, Officer Jeremy Ferguson, and Sergeant Michael Feige.
The Chief’s Award for Excellence was recently established by Interim Police Chief Collins to recognize officers that have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
The award is presented to an officer for a single operation, incident, or investigation to which an Officer has visibly upheld the ideals and core values of the Town of Waxhaw, the Waxhaw Police Department, and the profession of law enforcement. Receiving this award means that the Officer has performed their duty in an exemplary manner that demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, commitment to public service and personal sacrifice.
Chief Collins presented Officer Ferguson and Sergeant Feige with the award for their actions on October 13. Collins explained, “On the night of October 13, Officer Jeremy Ferguson and Sgt Michael Feige encountered a citizen of Waxhaw suffering from a mental health crisis. Officer Ferguson and Sgt Feige treated this young man like we would all hope that our son or daughter would be treated when in distress. Officer Ferguson and Sgt Feige’s patience, care and understanding extended beyond just this subject in need but included the mother and family of the young man. From start to finish, this call for service could not have been handled in a better fashion.”
As he presented the award to Officer Ferguson and Sgt. Feige, Chief Collins went on to say, “Gentlemen, when you succeed, we all succeed. Thank you for an excellent job that night.”
