Passionate Paws opened its doors in August of 2016 and they haven’t stopped growing since. Dr. Susan Bonilla and Stephen Bonilla, Hospital Administrator, admitted that when they opened they knew they would eventually need to expand. So when the office next door moved out, they stepped in and doubled the size of the office from 1,780 sq ft to 3,500+ sq ft. This Fear Free Certified practice prides itself on providing the best experience to their patients and their families.

Dr. Bonilla explains, “We wanted to continue to deliver a stress free, spa like experience. We now have five exam rooms and a Comfort Suite, so we can accommodate everyone and everyone is comfortable.” The new side offers new offices for the Doctors and staff as well as an expanded grooming salon. Many of the rooms can be used for dual purposes and having the medical on one side and grooming on the other allows them to have more freedom and less chaos. The Comfort Suite is a homey room that allows for pet parents saying goodbye to do so in a less office-like setting. None of the exam rooms in Passionate Paws have exam tables, instead opting for comfort and reduced stress for the pet.
The expanded grooming salon features many Fear Free Certified products and practices. The grooming tubs are on automated risers, so they can lower to the floor to allow bigger dogs to walk in and then raise the tubs to the height of the groomer. Not lifting is a big back saver as well as a safety issue for the animals. The tubs are made of fiberglass with a large rubber mat on the bottom to prevent animals from slipping. There are separate rooms for bathing, grooming, and drying. The kennel area features attachable blowers to speed drying time. They also have a small run to use for paw-siblings or to give the animals a chance to shake it out.

And the growth doesn’t stop here. Passionate Paws is currently adding to their staff of groomers and is looking for one more Veterinarian to join the practice. Dr. Bonilla is a Finalist for the Charlotte Media Group’s award for “Small Business Person of the Year” for Union County. The ceremony is being held on January 16, 2020, and Dr. Bonilla is honored to be nominated. They are also looking to make the entire grooming salon AKC Salon Safety Certified, and they are well on their way with all groomers being certified. Dr. Corvesi, another Vet at Passionate Paws, is seeking her Acupuncture Certification this summer too so that both she and Dr. Bonilla will be certified.
Passionate Paws is currently accepting new patients and grooming clients. Their expanded lobby, additional exam rooms, and separate grooming entrance means a more relaxing experience for everyone. Just don’t expect them to slow down anytime soon!
