Pig In The Park brings BBQ and fun to Wesley Chapel

Saturday May 5th, 2018 found a packed Dogwood Park in Welsey Chapel celebrating Pig in the Park. The 4th Annual Amateur BBQ Cook-Off brings BBQ lovers together to enjoy local competitor’s best pulled pork.  There was also live music, local businesses, and kid friendly activities for family friendly fun.  Sondra Bradford and Diana Bowler, of Wesley Chapel’s Friends of Parks and Recreation, helped organize the event.  “We are a non-profit that wants to bring people to Dogwood Park and the community together.”  Julie Brown of Wesley Chapel’s Parks and Recreation department actually spent the night at the park with the teams.  “The teams came in on Friday afternoon and they cooked all night.”  Trail Life Troop Leaders Robert Bradford and Jeff Greer are very proud of their team’s First Place win in the BBQ Competition.  Trail Life NC-0413 meets at Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church and they came to help promote their troop and make the best BBQ!

The English family came from Monroe. “We came out to enjoy Pig in the Park, eat some BBQ, and meet the neighbors.”
Mary Zurawski of Z’s BBQ came in Fourth at 2018 Pig in the Park. Kevin Zurawski, from Waxhaw, describes BBQ as his life’s passion. ” It’s our 2nd year here at Pig in the Park. We had a blast.”
Jeff Barbour, Tim Havens, Mike McKeown, Blaire Brown, and Julie Brown came to enjoy BBQ and support Pig in the Park. Julie is part of the Wesley Chapel Parks and Recreation.
Brian Somers, from Waxhaw, and Riley Rivers, from Monroe came in 2nd and 1st in the Pig Calling competition at Wesley Chapel’s Pig in the Park. River’s explains, “My mom grew up calling pigs. I was doing it for her dad. He’s here in spirit. They had pigs and cattle on their farm. She taught me how to do it. My grandma also helped.” Somers credits his second place finish to Google.
Jenny, Sean, Max-A-Minion, Ashley and Kelly are from Murdock Orthodontics in Wesley Chapel. “We came to sponsor the barbecue and Dr John Murdock was one of the judges.”
The Holleman and The Drakes, from Waxhaw and Weddington, relax after eating BBQ while listening to live music. “We were playing baseball across the street and came over for some BBQ.”
