Pirate Day at the Museum of the Waxhaws brings fun for all ages

The 8th annual celebration of Pirate Day at the Museum of the Waxhaws was held on August 25, 2018. This year’s events included sword and battle demonstrations, costume contests, story telling, Pirate School, a pirate encampment, games, cannon fire, an Artisan Market, along with a scavenger hunt and much more.  Held through out the grounds of the Museum of the Waxhaws, children and adults were invited to step into the world of Pirates and learn about their day to day life beyond their notoriety.

The 7th and 8th graders from Union Academy pose with Angus Charles during Pirate Day at the Museums of the Waxhaws. This team along with their teacher, Ms. Blair, help teach Social Studies and history to the 2nd graders. Angus Charles, History Dog, is the official Greeter at the Museum of the Waxhaws and can be found on FaceBook and Instagram.

Sophia Furner, from Indian Trail, makes her fiercest pirate face during the costume class for children under 6. Sophia is 4 1/2 and loves pirates.
