Rotary clubs from across Union and Mecklenburg counties are combining their efforts in hopes of compounding the positive impact that they provide for the communities that they serve.

The Rotary Club of Matthews and the Rotary Club of Waxhaw-Weddington have partnered with The DreamChaser’s Brewery in Waxhaw to host their second ever multi-club social and fundraiser. More than 50 members and guests from the two clubs brought good food and good cheer; more importantly, though, they brought clothing, personal essentials and other donations to support the life-sustaining work of the Union County Community Shelter.

As impactful as this event is sure to be, it is no one-off fundraiser. This event, rather, is part of an ongoing effort by Rotarians in Union County and Mecklenburg County to combat poverty, homelessness and hunger. Though there is no official creed, Rotary puts major emphasis on helping those in the community who are most at need.

From regularly scheduled shelter service days to fundraisers like the one held at The DreamChaser’s Brewery, Rotary has changed the lives of many North Carolinians. Homelessness rates in North Carolina show just how much of an impact that Rotary and other groups in the state have had.

According to The National Alliance to End Homelessness, the number of people experiencing homelessness in North Carolina has dropped an astonishing 24 percent since 2007. In just the last two years, the rate of homelessness in North Carolina has dropped six percent. Through concerted community efforts like those by the Rotary Club of Matthews and the Rotary Club of Waxhaw-Weddington, we can expect these rates to continue to drop.

Do you have a passion for service? If so, why not reach out to your local Rotary Club to learn how you can help bring an end to poverty, homelessness, hunger and disease. All of the progress made by the Rotary Club of Matthews and the Rotary Club of Waxhaw-Weddington is made by volunteer members who have dedicated themselves to serving this community and the people that make it so great.

The Rotary Club of Matthews meets each Monday from 12:30-1:30 pm in the Levine Senior Center at 1050 Devore Ln. in Matthews. The Rotary Club of Waxhaw-Weddington meets each Thursday at 7:30 am in the CMC-Waxhaw Medical Pavilion at 2700 Providence Road South in Waxhaw.
