WAXHAW, NC – Waxhaw, Weddington, and Wesley Chapel have some fantastic restaurants to offer with gourmet dishes and down-home flavor. This week, we will look at just a sampling of some of the beautiful establishments we are lucky to have right in our backyards.
Cork & Ale:
The Cork & Ale, owned by Bernard Arthur and Chris Martinez, is located adjacent to the Waxhaw Foot Bridge over the train tracks and is a restaurant, taproom, and wine bar. It is nestled in the shops along E. North Main Street and has a cozy and welcoming vibe. The restaurant team works as a family and makes the restaurant stand out with their care to each guest. Each employee waits on guests and follows up with patrons about their meal experience so they can use that feedback to improve constantly. With many repeat customers, The Cork & Ale keeps some delicious staples on their menu such as sliders, pasta, and paninis, but they also follow the seasons and use the freshest ingredients to put a new twist on old favorites. For example, the sliders may be constructed with candied bacon or stuffed with goat cheese; the pasta may be flavored with fresh caramelized onions, wild mushrooms, and garlic. They have a fabulous chicken and bacon ranch panini. Chef Clarissa Zick is an innovative chef with a natural palette for exquisite flavor combinations. The Cork & Ale is the perfect place to celebrate your special occasion, and they have a fantastic Sunday Brunch fusion with tantalizing brunch items and a few core items from their regular menu that compliment the season. They offer delivery, curbside pick-up, and door dash, which can be accessed through their website or Facebook page. The Cork & Ale has live music on “Tacos and Tunes” Tuesday with chicken, shrimp, beef, and specialized tacos. The restaurant also hosts Wine Tasting and Dinner Nights. September 20 will be Italian Wine Tasting and Dinner, November 8 will be Trent Moffitt Thanksgiving Wine Tasting and Dinner, and December 6 will be the annual 12 Wines of Christmas Tasting and Dinner. The Cork & Ale is located at 113 E. North Main Street in downtown Waxhaw and can be reached via phone at (704) 256-7757. Their website is http://www.corkale.com. Marios’s Italian Restaurant and John’s Place:
Mario’s Italian Restaurant is not your typical Italian restaurant. Instead, they offer a wide variety of traditional Italian foods and seasonally inspired items and pizzas from freshly made dough and mozzarella. Located just next door is John’s Place, an establishment for guests 16 years of age and older that houses a bar and event venue and serves the same menu as Mario’s. Owners John and Martha Fisichello opened the 400+ seating restaurant in 2015 after owning a previous restaurant for 35 years. John has 41 years of experience in the restaurant business and is an innovative and savvy owner. Craig Gillenwalters has been in the restaurant business since he was 14 and worked his way up to the executive chef. He is John’s brother-in-law and owned his own restaurant in New York before moving down to North Carolina to join his brother. The two men run a tight ship with excellent customer service and helpful wait staff with the help of relationship development marketing manager Barry Steiger. The food is fresh, natural, and scratch-made in-house in a 4,000 square foot kitchen. Your meal is made to order, including for delivery and pick-up. Their customer service is second to none, and the restaurant is famous for its event and party rooms. They are currently expanding to add more venue options (including outdoor) for weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, and more. Mario’s has specials every day of the week: Monday is $10 burger day, Tuesday is $10 ten-inch pizza day with ½ off your bottle of wine, Wednesday’s special is chicken or eggplant parmesan, Thursday is steak and seafood night, Friday is lasagna night with a chef-inspired tapas menu from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Saturday is their famous prime rib night, and Sunday’s special is brunch.
Mario’s is currently booking for Holiday parties, and it is recommended that you book early as the rooms fill up quickly. They have spaces for anywhere from 20 to 120 people. On September 13, they are hosting a Wedding Pro Mixer for wedding planners, photographers, florists, and other wedding professionals. You must register to attend.
