WAXHAW, NC – Camille Asmer, Certified Dog Trainer and Behavior Consultant, started Sit, Stay, Play Animal Training & Behavior in 2015. Focused on private, one-on-one training individualized for each client, Asmer teaches basic through advanced obedience and specializes in severe behavior modification for fearful and aggressive dogs. Offering phone, video, and in-person training sessions and consultations, Asmer will work with you and your animal to focus on areas you want to see your dog improve in through positive reinforcement.

Asmer grew up in Columbia, SC, but moved to the Charlotte, NC, area after she married. She was a stay-at-home mom who started volunteering with Project2Heal since she had always loved animals. “I remember my dad and stepmother pointing it out to me when I was a child,” Asmer explains. “They always had amazing dogs and I loved them all!” Asmer started with continuing education classes about dog behavior and training in order to help her help more animals. By the time she left Project2Heal, Asmer was the Head Trainer.

Currently, Asmer is completing her masters in Veterinary Forensics from the University of Florida and has already graduated with honors from CATCH Canine Trainers Academy, studied clicker training through Karen Pryor Academy, is Fear Free Certified, and is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Certified Behavior Consultant Canine by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. One of Asmer’s biggest concern about the dog training community is its lack of requirements. “There is no regulation in the dog training industry,” says Asmer, “so anyone can hang out a shingle and claim to train dogs. I work hard on continuing education so that I can offer my clients the very latest and best practices in dog training. I’m certified by two independent bodies in both dog training and behavior.”

Of course, 2020 brought changes to Sit, Stay, and Play. Asmer recently hired an assistant instructor and is looking to add more well-educated trainers to her team. She has become quite adept at video teaching with clients and their animals in a productive way, and sessions can be recorded so the owners can review the session time and again to help their animal learn. She starts her programs with a consultation where you will discuss your dog’s needs and goals along with background information and history. From there, she will work with you to design a training plan for the owner, family, and the animal that will point you towards success.
“My passion is helping people reach their goals with their dogs,” says Asmer. “Whether it’s instructing all levels of obedience to dogs and their humans or helping a dog with a behavior issue, I’ll always be using a force-free, science-based approach. The greatest joy in my job is watching the client-dog bond that is formed through force-free training!”
