Let me begin this article by saying, “Thank You,” to all of the currently active and retired military who call Waxhaw, North Carolina and the surrounding areas your home.
You are an integral part of our community. You own and operate businesses. You teach and coach our children. You are our next door neighbors, you sit beside us in church and at high school football games, and you keep us safe as first responders.
We are grateful for your service, not only to our great nation and for helping ensure our security, democracy, and continued way of life, but for your contributions to our daily lives.
I recently had the distinct privilege of serving a U.S Military veteran of the Marine Corps, Corporal Terry “T.J.” DePiero, as his Realtor® in the purchase of his Waxhaw home.
T.J. came to me via a lender friend from my home state of Virginia whose primary client base is veterans and active military members.
T.J. has a large family – himself and 5 girls, to be exact – and they found that living in Upstate New York, it was just too expensive to afford a nice house that could accommodate everyone comfortably.
He and his family initially set their sites on the Charlotte area and then quickly honed in on Waxhaw based on articles and reviews they read online about the town, the schools and the quality of life here.
From nearly 750 miles away in Ulster County, New York – home of Woodstock – they identified a popular neighborhood with many new construction homes that fit what they were looking for in the school district where they wanted to be right here in our small town.
To say Waxhaw’s reputation precedes it is an understatement!!
Unfortunately, the new construction homes they were most attracted to were priced slightly higher than what they wanted to spend.
However, knowing what they were looking for and being familiar with Waxhaw’s neighborhoods and homes For Sale, along with some divine intervention in running into another agent with a listing that met my client’s exact criteria, I was able to identify a home I knew was perfect for them.
I toured the house the day it came to my attention, filmed a private video tour and shared it with T.J. via YouTube. Turns out it was just what he was looking for and in nearly the exact location he had his sites set on. Directly across the street, in fact!
What makes this story the most special to me, though, and what I love about working in real estate, is that I got to play a small role in helping guide my client, a true American hero who served his country in military service, realize the American Dream.
If you happen to meet T.J. and his family in your neighborhood or out and about around town, please thank him for his service and give him a warm welcome to Waxhaw. Semper Fi!
