
Winter sports are underway this week in the Tri-W area, as teams meet up for their first official competitions in basketball, indoor track, swimming, and wrestling. With just one Tri-W team remaining in post-season football, the transition to the winter sports season is official. Here are the football playoff results so far, and the winter sports matchups for this week.Â
Marvin Ridge
Friday’s first-round playoff game ended in a close loss for Marvin Ridge football. Northwest Cabarrus edged out a 31-30 victory over the Mavericks, eliminating them from playoff competition. Varsity basketball begins for the Mavericks on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Covenant Day. The Marvin Ridge swim and dive team will compete at the Queen City Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 21, and the following Saturday against Weddington. The Mavericks will host the Rumble at the Ridge wrestling tournament on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Sun Valley
The first competition for the Sun Valley basketball team will be held on their home court against Cox Mill. Junior varsity games will begin at 4 p.m. Varsity games will begin at 6:30 p.m. The teams will take to the road on Friday to play against Union Academy. Varsity wrestling will travel to Hough this weekend for the Husky Invitational Tournament.
Weddington
The Warriors are the last Tri-W team left in post-season football after their 35-0 first-round win over South Iredell on Friday. The Warriors will match up against Parkland for their second-round game. Weddington basketball will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Porter Ridge. Weddington will travel to Cox Mill on Thursday for their second game of the season. Weddington wrestling will have a home match against Porter Ridge on the same day. Weddington swim and dive will compete at the Queen City Invitational on Nov. 21.
Parkwood
The football team at Parkwood has ended their season with a 7-5 record after Friday’s playoff loss against Northeast Guilford 35-23. The Parkwood basketball team will open their season at Union Academy on Nov. 19, following up on Nov. 22 at Porter Ridge. Parkwood wrestling will open on Thursday at Central Cabarrus. The Parkwood swim and dive team will travel to Wingate on Friday to take on Sun Valley and Piedmont.

Cuthbertson
Cuthbertson football is 5-7 for the year after losing to Watauga 61-21 in Friday’s playoff game. The Cuthbertson wrestling team will travel to Porter Ridge on Wednesday, Nov. 20, for their first dual match of the year. Cuthbertson basketball will host Charlotte Latin on Thursday for their season opener. The Cuthbertson swim and dive team will face off against Charlotte Catholic on Friday at the Anne Springs Close Greenway. Wrestling will continue for the Cavaliers on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Rumble at the Ridge tournament.  Â
