This Week’s Tri-W Sports Highlights

Tri-W area athletes put on impressive performances across the board this week. With conference play just ahead for local football programs, fans are looking forward to seeing their teams take to the field for  some of the most important matchups of the year. Here are some of the victories earned this week by Tri-W schools.

Cuthbertson



Cuthbertson football moves to 3-1 on the year after Friday’s 31-7 win over Jay M. Robinson. They will play at home against Parkwood for their first conference contest. Cuthbertson tennis won 9-0 at Parkwood and Sun Valley this week; their record is 5-3. The volleyball team has a record of 6-6, after a 3-0 win against Piedmont on Thursday, and a 3-1 win against Porter Ridge. Cuthbertson soccer is 3-3-1 after a 6-2 win over Sun Valley on Thursday.

Sun Valley

The Sun Valley volleyball team remains undefeated at 8-0 after three shutout wins this week. 3-0 wins at home, against Forest Hills and Weddington, were topped off by another 3-0 win at Monroe to end the week. Sun Valley tennis is 3-6 on the year, after defeating Piedmont 7-2 on Tuesday. The Sun Valley soccer team moves to 4-7 on the year, after a 9-0 shutout over Anson.

Parkwood

The Parkwood football team won 53-3 against Buford in Friday night’s game. They maintain a 3-1 record on the year. Parkwood volleyball, now 3-7, won 9-0 at Monroe on Tuesday. Parkwood soccer is 6-0, with one tie, after a 4-3 win at Weddington on Wednesday. The rebels tied 2-2 at home against Porter Ridge on Monday.

Weddington

The Weddington football program moves to 4-0 on the season after Monday’s 45-7 victory at home against Catawba Ridge. The volleyball team, at 8-2 earned a 3-0 win On Thursday against Charlotte Catholic. The tennis team earned a 6-3 win at home over Cuthbertson on Tuesday. They move to 9-1 on the season.

Marvin Ridge

The Marvin Ridge volleyball team is 11-2 on the season after a 3-0 win at Parkwood on Thursday, and a 3-0 win against Cuthbertson earlier in the week. The Mavericks are 7-2 in tennis with their 9-0 shutout victory at Monroe. The Marvin Ridge soccer team is 4-1-1 after defeating Monroe 3-2 on Wednesday.
