WAXHAW, NC – Weddington is the talk of the Tri-W area sports world as the Warriors continue to dominate in two of the most exciting sports endeavors of the year, so far.

As the third seed in the western 3A region of the NCHSAA 3A Men’s Soccer Championships, Weddington has torn through the first three rounds of competition with seemingly little resistance.

The Warriors, who will face off against the 16-seed Hickory Red Tornadoes, have left their opponents scoreless in each of their appearances at this year’s playoff tournament. Their most recent victory came by way of a 2-0 finish against the two-seed Watauga Pioneers.

The winner of the round four matchups between Hickory and Weddington will play against either Southern Alamance, or New Hanover, at WakeMed Soccer Park on March 26 for the 3A championship game.

This soccer season is hardly Weddington’s only accomplishment of the year. As 3A basketball champs, and major soccer competitors, the Warriors have put on some incredible performances already. Their football season is turning out to be no different.

While the rest of the 3A conference struggles for the position, the Warriors sit comfortably on top with, so far, a perfect record. Approaching the midway point in the season, the Warriors have defeated all opponents by large margins, except for their usual thorn in the side, the Charlotte Catholic Cougars. They defeated the cougars 7-3.

Weddington has played against conference opponents exclusively so far. Their most recent victory was a 56-7 matchup at Parkwood. Warriors football is currently ranked first in the state.
