WAXHAW, NC – Baseball, wrestling, and tennis continue on, as softball and golf wrap up their seasons. With many all-conference picks, and a state champion qualifier, the Tri-W area is proving, once again, that their athletes are some of the best around. Read on for a look at Tri-W teams, their performances this week, and what’s coming next.
Marvin Ridge has qualified for the state golf tournament with a second place NCHSAA regionals finish. Several Marvin Ridge athletes, including sophomores Ryan Dunn, Jeremy Voigt, and Jack Wieler, and freshman Ryan Curran, will compete on May 10 for the championship at Longleaf Golf Club.
Baseball season is going strong for Tri-W teams, with Parkwood and Cuthbertson remaining undefeated. Cuthbertson sits at 4-0 on the season after opening with two wins against Weddington, and another two against Sun Valley. Parkwood, at 2-0, earned their own set of wins against Weddington in their first series of the year. Marvin Ridge sits at third place in the Southern Carolina Conference with a record of 3-1, winning against Monroe and Charlotte Catholic, falling to Charlotte Catholic in their second game by a score of 7-5 after an 11-1 win. Sun Valley, at 2-2, opened their season with a pair of wins against Piedmont, falling to Cuthbertson by scores of 5-3 and 5-2. Weddington currently sits at 4-0 after losses to Parkwood and Cuthbertson.
